In our machine age we have learned to rely very much on material things -- gadgets that type our letters, cook our food, and transport us from one place to another. Farmers would be lost if they had to plow a field without a tractor or cut a tree without a power saw. In spiritual life, we sometimes have similar problems. We seem to lack the resources and strength to cope with the great problems of our day. For some, this leads to frustration, disappointment, and restlessness.
