Over the trash can
Commentary
Ashes may not be as familiar or as regular a part of daily life as when most people had wood or coal-fired stoves and furnaces. Perhaps we should place two letters before the word "ash" in order to impress ourselves with the perishing nature of earthly life. The letters would be "T" and "R."
Trash is familiar enough! We live in a day when philosophers ponder whether our destructiveness is outstripping our creative productivity, a day when scientists and industrialists labor for new means of conservation and recycling.
