The pastor had finished his normal elderly visitation talk when the old woman asked him to pray with her. As was his custom, he offered a prayer for her health and a regaining of her strength. As he stood beside her nursing home bed, she asked him to help her sit up. To his amazement she sat up and said she felt really good. Next, she told him to bring her the pink robe and slippers. She wanted to get out of bed. Stuttering, the pastor reminded her that she was weak and had been bedridden for weeks. She paid him no attention and so he helped her put on her robe and slippers. Holding out her arm, she motioned for him to help her stand. Again, the pastor reluctantly tried to dissuade her, but the old woman would have no part of it. Now standing, she held on to his arm and began to walk about. "Wow," she said, "I feel great! That prayer of yours really worked, Pastor." As the young pastor cranked up his car and backed out of the nursing home parking lot, he looked up through the windshield and pointed his finger, saying, "God, don't you ever do that to me again." Saint Paul knew about the true power of prayer when he said, "Pray in the Spirit at all times ..." (v. 18). -- Bolton
