Simple Signs
From the very start
God has blessed us
With simple signs
Of what shall be
And minds to read them
If only we so choose.
When at noon
The sky grows dark
And swift winds
Whip round the corners
Of our homes
We call the children in.
And so when among us
The homeless cry
And the overfed ache
From the emptiness
Of their pursuits
Is it not time
Desperately to turn
And seek another way?
From the very start
God has blessed us
With simple signs
Of what shall be
And minds to read them
If only we so choose.
When at noon
The sky grows dark
And swift winds
Whip round the corners
Of our homes
We call the children in.
And so when among us
The homeless cry
And the overfed ache
From the emptiness
Of their pursuits
Is it not time
Desperately to turn
And seek another way?
