Some people have nicknamed the Mormon restoration at Nauvoo, Illinois, "the Williamsburg of the West." An entire frontier city, built in 1839 and then abandoned five years later, has been carefully restored. Original materials have been reclaimed, period furniture put in, and painstaking attention has been given to detail.
When we looked in on some of the quaint homes at Nauvoo, our tour guide admitted, "These homes are a lot cleaner today than they were when the pioneers lived in them."
