A story is told of a French lighthouse keeper who worked near Calais. As he was showing his lighthouse to some guests one day, one of them asked, "What if one of your lights went out?" His response was, "Never!" He said that if he permitted that to happen, he would live in fear of being responsible for a ship crashing into some unseen rocks along the coast. Again he answered, "Never," and then went on to say, "Sometimes I feel as if the whole world is looking at my light."
The whole world has been looking at the light of Jesus Christ for almost 2,000 years. He came as the light of the world, for he brought the truth and love of God into a world darkened by sin. When he departed from this earth he left the responsibility of bringing light in our relationship with others. We need to realize that there are many persons drifting amid the dark sea of life who are looking for a light to lead them to the truth. We must not let our spiritual light go out, for we need to feel as if the whole world is looking at our light.
