Susan was convinced that arguing wasn't the answer. She had disagreed with people on committees before and, in her experience, the only thing arguing ever accomplished was solidification of opposing viewpoints. Argument was confrontational and tended to put one or both parties on the defensive. At the same time, it often split committees along the lines of each member's personal relationship with the persons having the argument rather than focusing their attention on the actual issues.
