There are many ways of naming children practiced in different regions of the globe. For instance, in China little girls are often just given a number. If the father's name is Pi, then his little girls are named Pi-one and Pi-two. American Indians have named their infants after the first thing that caught the baby's attention when he was placed outside the family tent for the first time. It could be Running Bear, or Sitting Bull, Black Cloud or Crow's Nest. In some places in the South Pacific, it is the parents who are given the names of their children.
