There may yet be the natural punishment within our sin that we need to endure. There may yet be a debt to society that we need to pay for having offended. But the eternal consequences of sin are gone. In Jesus Christ, God accepts us, despite what we are or what we have done. In Jesus Christ the extreme burden of sin is removed! That opens a door for us. If the Almighty Creator forgives and accepts us, then we should be able to accept and forgive ourselves. If God says yes to us, then that experience is just the therapy we need to say yes to ourselves.
