There is a monument in...

There is a monument in the town square not far from the church I am serving which says, "Dedicated to a nation of laws, not of men." That slogan has been used many times to try to describe our constitutional form of government. We do try to enact laws that are colorblind, non-sex linked, non-aged based. If you are a citizen, the law applies to you no matter what your station in life.
The concept is deceiving, however, for laws must be applied. Selective enforcement is a problem in our society. The rich seem to have the lawyers and the time to "get out of" those legal situations in which others must yield. Yet that does not represent a problem with the law. Laws are made to insure fairness, equity and the common social order. It is in their application and interpretation that human flaws creep in.
