Through the act of washing the feet of his disciples, Christ gave an example of humility and service. It is a lesson to all of us to beware of the sin of self-righteousness: of assuming that we have superior knowledge, grace, and goodness that others do not possess. Someone has said, "It is not necessarily Christ's divinity which makes him Lord; it is his humanity expressed toward all the world." And Thomas a Kempis wrote: "Do not consider yourself to have made any spiritual progress, unless you account yourself the least of all men.
