Traditions and written records, too, tell us that early navigators carried with them birds which they would let go and follow to land. The frigate bird or man-of-war bird was the one the Polynesians used for this purpose. The raven was used by the Norse.*
When Israel does not draw near to her God, it may be that she is unable to find the way. Obsessed with her own programs and games, she is adrift. Then it is time to send out the frigate bird or raven and follow the bird to shore.
