Two young men were out jogging. One asked the other why he seemed so gloomy. His friend responded, "I just heard a man back there call another a liar, a cheat and a rumor monger. And that if he didn't apologize for gossip he had been spreading he would beat him to a pulp." The first inquired why that made him sad. The second replied, "Because the fellow apologized."
We seem to invariably see others as worse than ourselves. How we delight in thinking the worst about each other and the punishments we hoped are heaped on other folk. Fortunately, God seems far less vindictive.
