We can sympathize with Simon who in effect says to Jesus, "This is just great. Let's stay here." We cannot go back to the Transfiguration but I think this is an important part of the story. We must go on. We generally do not link this to the Transfiguration, but we know it as "the good old days." We want to stay as romantic as newlyweds, we do not want our church changed, we want to maintain emotional and religious "highs."
