What children experience when they are young lasts for a lifetime. I listened to a grownup brother and sister argue whether less money should be spent on the Pentagon, whether the poor deserved "our" money, which political party was "better" and why. Their voices grew louder and the arguments more heated. They were brother and sister and had not seen each other for four years. I wondered how the argument might end.
It would not end in resentment, I knew, because they loved each other and had since they were children, and love built on trust survives differences.
