When I first became a Christian, I wondered why Jesus died on the cross. Why wasn't he put to death by some other method?

Later I learned that crucifixion was the method the state was using to kill people who had committed crimes against the state.

If Jesus had been put to death in our time and the Scripture had been written in our day, the Scripture might have read, "Even the death of the gas chamber." Or "Even the death of the electric chair." Or "Even the death of the hangman's noose." Or "Even the death of a lethal injection."
