When Salem Lutheran Church in Wooster, Ohio, reversed the direction of its sanctuary in the 1960s, it placed a large wooden facade over what had been the rear of the church, so that people would not be distracted by the large window. For a quarter of a century, this wooden veil remained over the window, until, only a few years ago when new improvements were being made, a carpenter removed the wooden facade, and suddenly the congregation experienced a bold, new sense of light as they looked toward the altar.
