When something humorous takes place...

When something humorous takes place in church, it seems to be more than funny -- it is hilarious. Example: The preacher is expounding so emphatically, "And what are we to make of the prophet's warning?" There is a pregnant and silent lull, broken by the sound of loud snoring from a gentleman of the choir. There is giggling and tittering heard throughout the sanctuary. Though the preacher is determined to make his point and continues on, his message is rather shattered by immediate events.
In the same way when evil things happen in church, in the context of the holy, the emotional revulsion is multiplied beyond the norm. Humor we can handle, but solemnity and corruption cannot abide together.
