When we believe in Jesus...

When we believe in Jesus, we are empowered by the new life of the Resurrection. We increasingly take on the qualities of a compassionate heart, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, bearing with one another, forgiving complaints, and expressing love. We are not without resources in living the godly life. Jesus is able to help us battle the enticing powers of this world: fornication, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed. He helps rid us of ugly things like anger, wrath, getting even, slander, and abusive language.
But we should not have an overly optimistic understanding of the Christian life. Christians are not perfect; we still struggle with sin. The resurrection power within Christians is real, but is not yet complete. Controlling our faults is exceedingly difficult. But with Christ, we can war against them more effectively. And someday, the victory will be complete.
