When we were very young...
Illustration
When we were very young, we probably obeyed the discipline of our parents because we feared the punishment they might mete, whether it be a simple scolding or a more severe reprimand with a willow switch. As we matured, however, that fear was replaced by a growing understanding and respect, realizing that the discipline given was for our own well-being. A mature man or woman who visits parents, listens to their wisdom, and follows their wishes usually does so, not out of fear, but out of love.
