Whether one goes to the movie theatre, watches TV, reads a novel or magazine, one has to cope with an obsession we have with sex. If one thinks about it, one realizes what confusion there is about sex. The films and novels which appear to exploit sex themes betray confused attitudes toward sex. La Dolce Vita, "The Sweet Life," Felinni's film, suggested that people are bored with sex. Ingmar Bergman's films strongly indicated a sense of guilt and judgment about sex. John Updike's novels about sex culminated in his nauseous story The Couples.
