World War II ended; they were coming home, 1,000 marines on a troopship. The Chaplain, Robert McAfee Brown, invited the men to a Bible study. They came to the miracle of raising Lazarus from the dead. One of the men stayed around after the class, wanting to talk. He poured out his story.
He talked about his guilt and remorse, describing it as "hell." Nobody knew about what he had done, but he knew, and he knew that God knew. He thought his life was ruined forever, that there was no hope for him, no way out.
