Pray for guidance
Children's sermon
Object:
fold your hands in a prayer position
Good morning, boys and girls. What am I doing when I do this? (Fold your hands in prayer and let them answer.) When do you pray during the day? How many of you say a prayer before you eat? (Let them answer.) How many of you say a prayer before you go to bed? (Let them answer.) How many of you say a prayer when something is troubling you? (Let them answer.)
I want to tell you about a little boy about your age. He had a problem. He went to school and there some other boys were teasing him. The teasing made him feel pretty bad. So, the boy went to his parents. He told them his problem. As he talked, he even cried, because the teasing bothered him so much.
Jesus had a problem too. He knew that he was about to die. He went to his holy parent, God, and talked about his problem. He talked about his problem in prayer to God. He was so troubled by his problem that he cried also. Jesus knew how important it was to pray to God about problems. That's what I want you to remember today. You can pray before you eat. When you do that you thank God for your food. You can pray before you go to bed. When you do that you ask God to take care of you as you sleep. There's one other important thing to remember about prayer. You can pray to God when something is troubling you. Just like the little boy who took his problem about being teased to his parents, you can take your problems to God when you pray. Jesus prayed about his problems. Remember this week that you can pray about your problems, too.
