The Preacher's Edge
(A Local History Sample Sermon)
It all started when the village of Belle Plaine hired William Wier for $350 to dig a well for the city and the south side's schoolhouse. On August 26, 1886, at 1:30 p.m., the well-digger struck water at 193 feet. The next day he returned to find a large amount of water belching into the air. The well increased in size all that day. The flow enlarged to one-and-a-half-feet wide, spurting eight feet into the air. William Wier quietly left town.
