Call To Worship
Worship
Life Everlasting
The Essential Book of Funeral Resources
Object:
(Continuing in that same chapter, verses 28 through 31 are also excellent as a call to worship.)
Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
Call To Worship (Isaiah 40:28-31)
Leader: Do you not know? Have you not heard?
People: Yahweh is the everlasting God,
Leader: The Creator of the ends of the earth.
People: Never growing tired or weary,
Leader: Beyond anyone's understanding.
People: Yahweh gives strength to the weary
Leader: And increases the vitality of the weak.
People: Even young people grow tired
Leader: And stumble and fall;
People: But those who put their trust in Yahweh
Leader: Will have their strength renewed.
People: They will soar as if they had the wings of eagles;
Leader: They will run and never grow weary,
People: They will walk and never grow faint.
(The following sentences may be used as a conclusion to the Isaiah passage.)
The grass withers and the flowers die, but the word of the Lord remains forever. Yes, maybe we grow old, and weary, and die, but nothing can change what God has promised to us. And, even better than that is this, that even though we grow weary and weak, God will renew our strength. We will -- as Gladys has today -- mount up with wings like eagles and soar higher and farther than ever before. This is the promise of God for us! Amen!
