Life Everlasting
The Essential Book of Funeral Resources
Object:
In his letter to the Philippian church, the Apostle Paul writes about his experience of being in prison for his faith. This is what he writes:
In spite of it all, I shall rejoice. For I know that through your prayers and the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ this will turn out for my deliverance. It is my eager expectation and hope that I shall not be at all ashamed, but that with full courage, now as always, Christ will be honored in my body, whether by life or by death.
For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. If it is to be life in the flesh, that means fruitful labor for me. Yet which I shall choose I cannot tell. I am hard pressed between the two. My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better.
Let us note that Paul says that for him, "... to live is Christ, but to die is gain!" To die is gain. To die is better. To die is to receive the glory for which he has lived his life.
Our friend has died, but let us remember today that, "... to die is gain!"
Come, let us worship the God who makes this so.
