The Compassionate Highway
Sermons For Pentecost (First Third)
The Compassionate HighwayHer name was Mary. Quite a common name. She lived in a village near Capernaum, a village of fishermen who worked Lake Galilee through the night hours. Mary was childless and unmarried. She was cared for by her older brother, who was more like her father in that he was twice her age. She was 18. Her brother was 36 although ages were not kept in that ancient day nor in that little village. Her brother was simply one of the elders, an old man. And Mary was the sister that he must care for. She was a sweet person, kind and loving. And pretty, too. Also, she was a cripple.
