From confusion at Cana to clarity at Calvary
Prayer
Contemporary Lectionary Prayers
Based Upon Cycle C Lectionary Gospels
Gospel Theme:
From confusion at Cana to clarity at Calvary
Gospel Note:
The point of this miracle, reported only by John, is unclear at best. Jesus at first apparently refuses to act, then acts so as to produce an enormous quantity of wine, a miracle that ''manifested Jesus' glory,'' but God knows how! Yet, the account's ambiguity may be its most important lesson: the meaning of Jesus' ministry gradually unfolds from confusion at Cana to clarity at Calvary -- an epiphany in process.
Liturgical Color:
Green
Suggested Hymns:
The Only Son From Heaven
Jesus, Priceless Treasure
Jesus Calls Us, O'er The Tumult
Epiphany 2
Thank you, Lord!
For celebrations which bring people together.
For celebrations which reflect the joy of living
in the glow of your grace.
For celebrations which have meaning beyond
our comprehension.
Your son attended the wedding in Cana and made it
a special occasion indeed! Just think of it ...
Water into wine!
Startled servants!
Pleased guests!
Astonished hosts!
There is no limit to what your son can do, is
there, Lord?
Transform our gatherings into celebrations which
reflect your grace and power.
Open our hearts so that we will become aware of
the exciting possibilities all around us.
Help us to appreciate the abilities which you
have planted in every person and inspire us to
develop our full potential for service.
Thank you, Lord.
Amen.
