Anguish on me descends;
Despair and grief confound me;
I search in vain for friends.
Your silence, God, I ponder;
Your absence in my need.
Forsaken, left to wonder,
Why God, do you not heed?

Why am I left to languish?
Why do you not reply?
How different, in our hist’ry,
Deliverance you gave.
Now, shrouded with deep myst’ry
Why, God, do you not save?
