Series VI, Cycle C
Theme: Gratitude For All The Lord Has Given
Call To Worship
Leader: Sing to the Lord, all the world! Worship the Lord with joy.
People: We will come before him with happy songs.
Leader: Acknowledge that the Lord is God. He made us and we belong to him.
People: We are his people; we are his flock.
Leader: Enter the Temple gates with thanksgiving; go into its courts with praise.
People: We will give thanks to him and praise him. Amen.
Collect
Most Gracious God, the seasons come and go; and once again another seedtime and harvest have not failed. The fruits of the earth have been gathered that they might meet the needs of your children. We offer you our thanksgiving and pray that you will feed our souls with the Bread of Life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, we rejoice in the bountiful harvest of another year, but pray that we may be ever-mindful of those who go hungry in this land and throughout the world. Use us and your Church to stir the hearts of our leaders to make it a priority that as a "nation under God" we will do everything possible to feed the hungry. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
O God, of whose bounty we have all received, accept this offering of your people, and so follow it with your blessing that it may advance the kingdom of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
Hymns
"For The Beauty Of The Earth"
"Mountains Are All Aglow"
"Praise, My Soul, The King Of Heaven"
Day Of Thanksgiving
Second Lesson: Philippians 4:4-9
Theme: Ask With A Thankful Heart
Call To Worship
The Lord is good; his love is eternal and his faithfulness lasts forever.
Come, let us worship our generous God with songs of praise and prayers of thanksgiving.
Collect
O God our Father, we bow before you with grateful hearts for your bountiful goodness to us. You have blessed us in so many ways, we cannot begin to count them. Most of all, we thank you for the gift of your Son, Jesus Christ. His life, his death, his resurrection, and his ascension have shown us the way to eternal life with you. With hearts filled with hope, joy, and thankfulness, we praise your holy name. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, with humble and contrite hearts, we come to you seeking forgiveness for the forgetfulness and ingratitude with which we routinely accept our daily blessings. Fill us with your Holy Spirit that our hearts may overflow with thanksgiving, and may we never take our blessings for granted again. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
O Lord our God, with gratitude for your many blessings, and with a strong commitment to carry on your ministry, we present these gifts. May your Church, bolstered by our commitment of time, talents, and money, be strengthened, and by your Holy Spirit empowered to carry the gospel into the world. Amen.
Hymns
"For The Fruits Of This Creation"
"Praise To The Lord, The Almighty"
"Thank You, Lord"
Day Of Thanksgiving
Gospel Lesson: John 6:25-35
Theme: The Bread Of Life
Call To Worship
Leader: Praise the Lord, my soul! Praise his holy name!
People: Praise the Lord, my soul, and remember how kind he is.
Leader: He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases.
People: He blesses me with love and mercy. He fills my life with good things.
All: Praise the Lord, all his creatures. Praise the Lord!
Collect
O Lord, we gather to thank you for the many ways in which you have blessed us. We thank you for parents who labor to build strong character in their children; for teachers who are more concerned about the development of the children they teach than they are about test grades; for doctors and nurses who minister to the needs of their patients without regard for the accumulation of wealth; and for all your servants who do your will in providing for the welfare of all of us. Thanks be to you, O God. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O God, forgive us when we look upon our blessings as something owed to us and when we become resentful if we do not have as much as our neighbors. Remove from us all selfish desires. May we always recognize that you are the giver of every good and perfect gift and you have blessed us far beyond anything we deserve. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
Heavenly Father, out of our deep concern for those who are without food, we bring these gifts to be used to feed the hungry. May we never lose sight of the need also to help them find the Bread of Life in Christ Jesus. Amen.
Hymns
"Come, Ye Thankful People, Come"
"Now Thank We All Our God"
"We Gather Together"
