Deductive And Inductive Sermons
Preaching Eyes for Listening Ears
Sermons and Commentary For Preachers and Students of Preaching
The processes of deduction and induction are mirror opposites. In deduction a principle, theme, or general conclusion is stated at the outset, followed by supporting data such as examples, illustrations, or statistics. In induction the data comes first and leads to or points toward a general conclusion or conclusions. One form of the inductive method aims progressively toward a single, increasingly self--evident conclusion. A different form places more value on the process of exploration and invites a variety of conclusions along the way and at the journey's end.
