A different kind of King
Prayer
Contemporary Lectionary Prayers
Cycle B
Gospel Note:
The conversation about kingship between Pilate and Jesus
reported by John is a classic case of two people "talking past
one another." John's Pilate clearly is looking for an excuse to
execute Jesus, so Jesus' admission that he is any kind of king is
sufficient for his purposes. For our purposes, however, what is
important is Jesus' insistence that his kingdom is other-worldly:
a Kingdom of Truth.
Liturgical Color:
White
Suggested Hymns:
Rejoice, The Lord Is King!
The Head That Once Was Crowned
All Hail The Power Of Jesus' Name!
Christ Is Alive! Let Christians Sing
Christ Is The King!
Jesus Shall Reign
Christ The King Sunday
The day of the Lord will come!
And, on that day, all nations and all people will
stand before the King.
The last chapter of history will have been
recorded.
Earth will have passed away.
All will stand to await the final judgment to be
rendered by the Risen King.
Simple acts of justice and mercy,
love and kindness are what will matter in the end.
A cup of water.
A visit at a bedside or a prison cell.
Shared clothing or food.
Lord, prepare us for that day.
Give us the ability to remain alert and
sensitive to the needs around us,
and give us the heart to respond.
We love you, Lord.
May our lives reflect that love so that we may
share the joy of eternity with you.
Amen.
