Call To Worship

People: To sing in honor of the Most High God.
Leader: It is good to proclaim his constant love every morning,
People: and his faithfulness every night.
Leader: The mighty deeds of the Lord make me glad.
People: Because of what the Lord has done I sing for joy.
Collect
O God, we come to you hungering and thirsting for the Word of Life. We know that you are merciful and quick to forgive, and so we bow in humble contrition before you, and pray that in this time of worship your Spirit will show us the path that leads to Eternal Life with you. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, we have tried to live an independent life. We thought we could find our own way through the difficult paths of life. We know now that we need to change our way of thinking and of living, and so we turn to you the Lord, our God. Forgive our past mistakes, and grant us a new way of life guided by your Holy Spirit. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
Heavenly Father, even as we have walked in darkness before we found the Light of the World in Christ our Lord, so, too, do millions of people throughout the world. Accept these gifts, we pray, and use them to bring to people everywhere the Light that no darkness can put out. Amen.
Hymns
"Blessed Jesus, At Thy Word"
"Seek The Lord"
"O Word Of God Incarnate"
Eighth Sunday After Epiphany
Second Lesson: 1 Corinthians 15:51-58
Theme: Keep Busy In Your Work For The Lord
Call To Worship
Leader: "Come, we that love the Lord, and let our joys be known."
People: "We will join in a song with sweet accord, and thus surround the throne."
Leader: "Then let our songs abound, and every tear be dry;"
People: "We're marching through Emmanuel's ground, to fairer worlds on high."
Collect
Almighty and Everlasting God, we lift our voices in praise and thanksgiving for your many blessings. We know that everything we have comes from you, and in gratitude we offer our feeble efforts to further your kingdom by the way we live. Keep us busy in our work for you, and strengthen our faith that nothing we do in your service is ever useless. In Jesus' name. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, we are aware that through the death and resurrection of Jesus you have shown us that death has been conquered. Sometimes, though, when death draws near to us, and loved ones pass from our midst, we cry out for reassurance. Be near to us in times of sorrow, and revitalize our faith that we, too, may say, "Thanks be to you who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." Amen.
Offertory Prayer
O God, we cannot do everything we would like to serve you and bring your message of love and eternal life to others, and so we bring these gifts that they may be used through your Church to extend our efforts on behalf of your kingdom. Amen.
Hymns
"Forth In Thy Name, O Lord"
"Give Me The Faith Which Can Remove"
"We Utter Our Cry"
Eighth Sunday After Epiphany
Gospel Lesson: Luke 6:39-49
Theme: By Your Fruits You Are Known
Call To Worship
Leader: Come, let us worship the God of all creation.
People: We come with praise and thanksgiving for our universe, and especially the earth where we live.
Leader: God sends the rain and makes the sun to shine. He gives us seedtime and harvest.
People: We are grateful for another spring, and we look forward with hope to the promise of harvest in the fall. Amen.
Collect
Heavenly Father, use this time of worship to instill in us a new commitment so to live our lives that those with whom we come in contact may know by our deeds that we are Christians. Keep us ever faithful to the teachings of Christ, our Lord, in whose name we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Almighty God, you have provided us with all that we need, but we confess that we have often failed to be good stewards of your creation. Instill in us a new spirit, we pray, that we may do all in our power to take care of your creation, using its fruits to benefit all your children, and ensuring that our children and our children's children will inherit the good earth. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
Lord, bless these gifts and those who have shared their bounty in making them possible. Accept them as symbols of our commitment to use all that we have to your glory. Amen.
Hymns
"I Surrender All"
"O Master, Let Me Walk With Thee"
"Go Forth For God"
