The existential, practical Trinity
Prayer
Contemporary Lectionary Prayers
Cycle B
Gospel Note:
The story of Nicodemus brings together the basic elements of
the later creedal formula, not in some abstract, philosophical
discourse, but rather in response to the very practical,
existential question of salvation. Thus the Spirit is God's
regenerating power "from above," the Son (of man) is the proper
object of faith, and the Father is the loving parent behind the
whole plan for human redemption.
Liturgical Color:
White
Suggested Hymns:
Father Most Holy
I Bind Unto Myself Today
All Glory Be To God On High
Holy Spirit, Truth Divine
O Trinity, O Blessed Light
God The Father, Be Our Stay
Holy Trinity Sunday
Questions. Questions. Questions.
We have plenty of questions, Lord!
Why does everything have a beginning and an
ending, except you?
Why is our knowledge limited?
Why are we such good talkers and
such poor listeners?
Why are we so uncomfortable with silence?
We want to fill it up with something. Anything!
Calm us. Quiet us.
Speak to us, Lord, from the midst of silence.
Free us to ponder the mystery of your
self-revelation as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Release us from the burden to prove
everything rationally.
Simply be present in our lives, and continue
the miracle of our growth in faith.
Amen.
