SAM: (ENTERS ALONG WITH WILL) I don't know. I don't know if I can make it.
WILL: You've had a shock.
SAM: It was a shock. It really was.
WILL: You'll make it.
SAM: Will I? I don't really know.
WILL: You can call me anytime.
SAM: I know that.
WILL: Will you, though?
SAM: What? Call you? I did today, didn't I?
WILL: I'm glad you did.
SAM: Yeah, me, too. Sometimes I'm all right and then, I don't know, it seems to come back like a gigantic wave, drowning me.
WILL: Grief will do that to you. You had a great loss.
SAM: A great loss? Yes. But I lost more than my wife. I lost my faith.
WILL: Your faith?
SAM: My faith. I don't want to go to church anymore. I don't want to pray. I don't want to go out -- nothing.
WILL: Going to church -- that's not faith. It's necessary for fellowship and worship, but it's not faith.
SAM: I just can't face all those people. I know they mean well, but it brings it all back. I can't do it.
WILL: Church is important, but there's no rush. You'll get back to it in time.
SAM: I don't know if I can.
WILL: You haven't lost your faith. You don't need the amount of faith it would take to command a tree to be transplanted into the ocean.
SAM: Enough faith to get out the door, to lead a normal life again, would be nice.
WILL: Right now your life isn't normal. Your life has changed. Your wife died. What's normal is to need some time to adjust to the changes that will make in your life.
SAM: Every time I do something I think of her.
WILL: Of course. Those memories are precious.
SAM: Yes. She was a part of me. So how do I do it?
WILL: What? Get back to a normal life? Well, your life will be different. You have to accept that.
SAM: When will I want to pray again?
WILL: Oh, you will. Prayer was an important part of your life before Shirley's death. It will be again. It will all happen as you trust the Lord with your everyday life.
SAM: I do that. I have to, just to get through each day.
WILL: That's it.
SAM: What?
WILL: Faith. That's it.
SAM: Faith?
WILL: Yes, that's faith. Trusting Jesus to get us through each day.
SAM: I thought it was some big, complicated, involved, theological thing.
WILL: No. It's not. If it were, then a little child couldn't have faith.
SAM: True. Just trusting God to get me through the day, eh?
WILL: As all the saints have done, with whatever He has planned for your day. Just doing the simple things He has prepared for you to do. And one of those days planned by Him, He will want you to go to church and then it will be right and it might not be easy but it will be possible, because you will be trusting Him.
SAM: You make it sound easy.
WILL: Not easy, but do-able.
SAM: Yes, maybe it is do-able.
WILL: I'll go with you.
SAM: Thanks. That will help. You're a good friend.
WILL: I want to be. (THEY HUG AND EXIT)
