The Sermon:
Have you ever seen God? No one has. Our eyes are not made to see a spirit and God is a spirit. Even the disciples and friends of Jesus never saw God the Father.
If we love God the Father, and Jesus our Savior, then there are three important things in our lives. 1 Corinthians 13:13 tells us, "And now faith, hope, and love bide, these three; and the greatest of these is love."
Believing in God, believing in Jesus, means having faith in them and that is hard for some because they can't be seen. Jesus knew it might be hard to believe, so he told a story to help us understand. We read in John 3:8 that Jesus said, "The wind blows where it chooses, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit."
Jesus said that the Spirit of God is a little like the wind. We hear the wind and it blows, but we do not see it. We also see what it can do. *If I blow this balloon up, can you see the air that goes into it? You do not see the air, only what the air can do. What do you see the wind doing? We see trees moving, flags, leaves, dirt moving, and waves moving in the water. We do not see the wind, only what the wind does.
We don't see God, only what he does. We don't have to look far in his beautiful world to see what God has done. He has made us a wonderful world to use and to enjoy (Romans 1:20). So we believe in God, even though we don't see him. This is faith. The Bible tells us that we cannot please God unless we have faith (Hebrews 11:6). God will help us to have this faith if we want it and will ask him for it.
