Series VI, Cycle C
Theme: Salvation Is Available To Everyone
Call To Worship
Leader: Praise the name of the Lord all peoples.
People: Let them praise the name of the Lord.
Leader: His name is greater than all others.
People: His glory is above earth and heaven.
All: Let all God's people praise him.
Collect
Lord, we know that your saving grace is available to everyone who will believe in you and accept your forgiveness. Therefore, as we gather to praise you in our worship, we also lift up before you those people and nations who are at war with themselves and others; the poor, the hungry, and the homeless, both those in our own community and those abroad; those suffering from illness and disease, especially those who are dying; and your Church throughout the world. May we who follow Christ be used by you to minister to all these for whom we pray. In Jesus'Êname. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
God of mercy, Christ's resurrection gives us the assurance of forgiveness for past failure, and so we beseech you to grant us that pardon. You are the source of new beginnings, and so we pray for a fresh start as we seek to follow Jesus in all that we do, all that we say, and all that we think. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
O God, Jesus told his disciples that they would do even greater deeds than he did. Use these gifts, Lord, and all the members of your Church to bring this to pass. Help us to use all the discoveries and accomplishments of science and medicine to further your kingdom of love, peace, and justice here on earth. Amen.
Hymns
"Ye Servants Of God"
"Christ For The World We Sing"
"We've A Story To Tell To The Nations"
Fifth Sunday Of Easter
Second Lesson: Revelation 21:1-6
Theme: God Will Make All Things New
Call To Worship
God created the heavens and the earth and entrusted them to our care. In our folly, we have polluted the earth and the air. We have wasted our natural resources. We have created weapons of war and of mass destruction. But God has promised to make all things new.
Come, let us worship our Creator, the giver of new life, the source of our hope. Amen.
Collect
Almighty and Everlasting God, you have created all things great and small. You care for the birds and the galaxies, and we marvel that you have created us in your own image. Your love for us was made real in Jesus Christ, and we know that you have not forgotten any of us. We rejoice and give you thanks and praise that your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom that endures forever and forever. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, you have promised to give us new life, and yet we cling to our old ways. Your Church should be a living example of how your people can live together in peace and harmony, but so often it is torn asunder by quarrels and an unwillingness to show your love in all our relationships. Send your Spirit upon us and create in us hearts that are pure and loving. We ask in Jesus'Êname. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
O God, we bring these gifts that they may be used by you to do marvelous things for the renewal of your Church, your world, and all humanity. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Hymns
"O Holy City, Seen Of John"
"O Come And Dwell In Me"
"Amazing Grace"
Fifth Sunday Of Easter
Gospel Lesson: John 13:31-35
Theme: The New Commandment
Call To Worship
The night before he was crucified Jesus gave his disciples a new commandment -- that they should love one another even as he loved them.
In this time of worship, may we once more commit ourselves to love one another. Come, let us worship the God of love!
Collect
O God, we give you thanks that Jesus walked among us and through his deeds showed us how to love not only our family and friends, but even those we call our enemies. Through the power of your Holy Spirit, enable us so to live that everyone who sees us will know we are Christians by our love for all your children. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Heavenly Father, of all the commandments, perhaps the most difficult of all to keep is to love one another even as you have loved us. Forgive our failures, we pray, and so fill us with your love that we will go forth with new determination to reflect that love in all that we do or say. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
Lord, we love you because you first loved us and gave yourself for us that we might have life eternal. We bring these offerings as an expression of our love for you, and pray that they may be used to make your love known to your children everywhere. Amen.
Hymns
"In Christ There Is No East Or West"
"Lord, Speak To Me"
"Help Us Accept Each Other"
