The followers of Christ as consecrated foreigners
Prayer
Contemporary Lectionary Prayers
Cycle B
Gospel Note:
This passage is a portion of Christ's "high priestly," parting
prayer for the disciples he is leaving behind. In it, "the world"
is treated largely as a hostile environment, under Satan's
control, and Jesus' followers as foreigners who, like their
Master, are "in" but not "of" the world. At the same time, the
prayer presupposes that these foreigners are about to set out on
a mission in and for the world, for which they need divine
consecration and protection.
Liturgical Color:
White
Suggested Hymns:
Have No Fear Little Flock
By All Your Saints In Warfare
O Christ, You Are The Light And Day
Lord, Thee I Love With All My Heart
I Trust, O Christ, In You Alone
We Worship You, O God Of Night
Easter 7
Holy Father, keep us in your name.
This simple prayer holds depth and power in
delicate balance.
Keep us in your name.
Names are important to us.
We use names to identify things, to help in
communication and to get what we want from others.
Knowing and speaking your name rightly keeps our
lives in delicate balance.
When we call upon your name,
the depth of your love becomes instantly
available to us
and the power of your gracious will stands
ready to properly move us.
Your name is not a trinket to be tossed here and
there in a casual manner.
Your name is precious and powerful.
You are fully present when your name is called
upon.
You are here. We are here. We are yours.
Amen.
