Fun With Seeds

Object:
A package of seeds for each child.
Purpose: To remind children about the importance of what they produce each day. Daily actions reveal each one's character.
Material: A package of seeds for each child.
Lesson: Do you know where seeds come from? ... (From plants and trees.) When do they come? ... (When the plant or tree is mature. Some seeds come in the spring and some in the fall.) And what happens to some of those seeds when they fall upon the ground? ... (They start to grow.)
One of the most interesting things about seeds is that you get what you plant. In other words, if I plant an apple seed I will get an apple tree and that tree will produce apple seeds. If I plant corn seeds, I will get corn. And so it goes.
Seeds will always produce what they are supposed to produce. GOD HAS PLANNED IT THAT WAY. Jesus used this fact in one of the lessons he taught. He said, ''You will know them by their fruit''; and the fruit of a tree is its seed (Cf. Matthew 7:16). What he meant by that was that a good person will do good things. Or to put it another way, if you want to be seen as a good person, then you have to do good things. It is a lesson we all need to remember.
This morning I have a package of seeds for each one of you. Plant them at home and see what you get from your seeds.
Possible Times To Use This Illustration In The Home:
• In the springtime or the fall, when seeds are seen in nature.
• To remind your child that, as members of the family, you all have special expectations of one another. When the child produces what is expected, it shows what kind of family he or she is from.
• When you want to stress the importance of personal character.
Scriptural Background: ''If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. ... But love your enemies, and do good ... and you will be sons of the Most High; for he is kind to the ungrateful and the selfish'' (Luke 6:32-36).
