Familiar Expressions from the Bible
Object:
Expression: With God all things are possible
Location: Mark 10:27
Verse: And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men [mortals] it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.
I have had the opportunity to compose music for choirs during my thirty-year tenure as a minister of music in churches. In one of my musicals called Spirit of Love, I composed a song with the title, "For with God, Nothing Will Be Impossible."
After many weeks of rehearsing and finally performing this musical for a worship service, one of the choir members came up to me and said, "Do you know what piece of the musical I like the best?" I was anxious to hear her answer.
This particular choir member was a lovely lady who had often shared with my wife and me the many heartaches and problems she had endured. Her husband died, and she was having many problems with her children. Some of the problems that she related to us would break our hearts to hear as we tried to give her support.
She said, "The song that touched my heart the most is 'For with God, Nothing Will Be Impossible.' "
I was quite gratified that this had meant something to her and had uplifted her spirit in being reminded that God indeed is there to help us through anything and give us comfort.
The most forthright statement of this expression in the Bible is in the book of Luke when the angel appears to Mary, a virgin, and says that she will conceive in her womb, and bring forth a son who shall be called Jesus who will save his people from their sins. For with God nothing shall be impossible (Luke 1:37).
