Call to Worship (based on Psalm 22)
Leader: You who are in awe of Yahweh, praise God! Glorify and stand in awe, you offspring of Israel!
People: Yahweh hears us when we cry out in fear.
Leader: The poor shall eat and be satisfied. Those who seek shall praise Yahweh. May your hearts live forever!
People: All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to God, and all the families of the nations shall worship before our God.
Leader: Future generations will be told the story,
People: And proclaim deliverance to a people yet unborn by Yahweh's sacrifice.
Leader: Let us worship and praise the Lord.

What Wondrous Love Is This
Call to Confession
Today we come to hear the story of the last hours of Jesus' life. It is a tragic story, one we'd rather not hear. We bring to this story our own sinfulness and our own rejection of our God - even as we call ourselves Christians. Let us pray now as one body, confessing our sinfulness.
Prayer of Confession
Merciful God, what a day this must have been for you - watching your own son - despised, reviled, mocked, and even killed so that we mortals might be saved from ourselves. We come together to be reminded of Jesus' sacrifice and your mercy. Forgive us, God, for forgetting your love for us, for denying the enormity of the sacrifice, for acting like we deserved this kind of sacrifice in the first place. Forgive us for putting ourselves ahead of you and your desires for us. We are a selfish people who must constantly be reminded of your love and generosity. Don't give up on us, we pray.
Assurance of Forgiveness (based on Hebrews 10:16--22)
This is the covenant which I will make of them, says the Lord: I will set my laws in their hearts and write them on their understanding; and their sins and wicked deeds I will remember no more at all. And where these have been forgiven, there are offerings for sin no longer. So now, my friends, the blood of Jesus makes us free to enter boldly into the sanctuary by the new, living way, which he has opened for us through the curtain, the way of his flesh. We have, moreover, a great priest set over the household of God; so let us make our approach in sincerity of heart, and full assurance of faith, our guilty hearts sprinkled clean, our bodies washed with pure water.
