In this short phrase from the second article of the Apostles' Creed, we enter into the heart of darkness. Jesus cried out from the cross, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" The paradox of the cross is that Jesus is forsaken in order that we might know that God never forsakes us. How far will Jesus go to make sure that we know that we will never be forsaken? He goes to the heart of darkness, faces the great ordeal, and dies for us.
