Jesus' grace and Adam's sin

Call to Worship
Pastor:
We are all like Adam, in that we are naturally inclined to sin.
People:
And our sin, like Adam's sin, leads to death.
Pastor:
But God gives us hope through his Son, Jesus, whose death gives life to all who believe in him.
People:
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ is greater than the sin we share with Adam. Praise his name!
Collect
Eternal God, who conquers the power of sin in each generation by your grace poured out in the death of Jesus our Lord: Make firm our devotion to Christ; that our likeness to Adam may be transformed into the image of Christ, in whose name we pray. Amen.
Prayer of Confession
It is so easy for us to be like Adam, Father; and we excuse ourselves by thinking it is natural. But our real desire is to be more like Jesus. Forgive us for our persistence in sin, and our indifference to Jesus' death for our redemption. Grant us understanding and acceptance of the grace of our Lord who gives us the hope of eternal life. In his name we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"How Happy Every Child of Grace"
"Jesus Is All the World to Me"
"Just as I am, Without One Plea"
"O Happy Day"
PROPER 7

Be faithful, even if persecuted
Call to Worship
Pastor:
Social acceptance is a powerful force which often hinders our Christian witness.
People:
We want to share our faith; but we often hesitate, because we are afraid we will be ridiculed.
Pastor:
Jesus said we should be more afraid of what God will say about us if we are not true to him.
People:
We need more strength to be faithful in our witness. May God help us.
Collect
O Holy God, whose Son challenges us with discipleship which is not threatened by those who reject us or our witness: Increase our faith in your protection; that we may be faithful with our witness, even when fear would make us hesitate. We pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Prayer of Confession
We have no desire to deny our faith, O God; but our witness, silenced by fear of rejection, is not adding to your kingdom. Forgive us for such little respect we give to you when we are so easily convinced our witness should be withheld because of possible ridicule. Give us the determination to be true with our witness; that we may be faithful in our commitment to Christ, through whom we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Are Ye Able"
"In the Hour of Trial"
"O For a Faith that Will Not Shrink"
"Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus"
