Lectionary Worship Workbook
Series III, Cycle A
Object:
Gathering
Have a water supply available in the narthex for your congregation to fill their cups and glasses and then have them leave their seats and surround the baptismal font. Pre-assign different voices to speak the following litany as people pour water into the font.
Clean, pure, rushing water,
running on the streets, flood water,
muddy water,
bath water,
bottled water,
ice cold water,
steaming hot water,
salt water,
spring rain,
bubbling up
from our eyes,
from the earth,
from your heart.
P: Water of life, shower us with your love and fill our hearts. Make our desires pure and our actions holy, that your love might flood the earth and your righteousness be known. In Christ's name.
C: Amen.
Offertory Prayer
A: O Giver of all good gifts,
C: your mercy floods our lives. We give you thanks for the life that you have called each of us to live, and with these gifts we return our lives to you, that we would forever be vessels of your praise through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Post-Communion Blessing
P: May these gifts of bread and wine satisfy the desire of every living heart.
C: Amen.
Post-Communion Prayer
A: We thank you, Lord, that drinking in your love we may be set free to serve all those whom you have died for. May your reconciling love call us to new places and new conversations, where the wideness of your mercy draws us all to you, Jesus Christ our Lord.
C: Amen.
Benediction
P: May you live and die in him
as he has lived and died for you,
that strengthened in our weakness
and set free from sin,
we would glorify our Savior
every day of your lives.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, + and of the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen.

Service Notes
You may divide the gospel reading between two voices, changing not as characters in the story, but more as narrators/proclaimers. Change voices at verses 7, 9, 13, 16, 21, 27, 28, 31, and 39.
Use a Eucharistic Prayer on this day that includes the theme of healing. LBW's Occasional Service Book, p. 84, provides a fine example.
