The Lion's Paw

Series V, Cycle B
Call To Worship
Leader: Who is your Goliath?
People: The welfare system, the wearing out of body and mind that aging or disease brings, alcoholism, drug addiction, a domineering spouse, unemployment, economic situation, all that seems impossible to overcome.
Leader: What lion's paw have you dared to confront?
People: Change, uncertainty, the unknown, the day to day, attitudes, responsibility, all that we rather would not do but do anyway.
Leader: Who is your strength and your bulwark?
People: God is our strength. God is our security.
Collect
When we have deterred the lion's paw with your help, O God, we know we will be brave enough to take on Goliath. Should we not outwit Goliath, our try still will have been honorable in your sight. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
It is easy to turn away when a challenge first presents itself. It is more difficult to ignore it when the lives of others are at stake, when we sense our responsibility, and when we realize we alone are called to the task. Bring to us the inner calm of knowing that you stand beside us as we grapple with difficult situations. Amen.
