A madman with a mysterious ministry
Prayer
Contemporary Lectionary Prayers
Cycle B
Gospel Note:
This interesting passage is an example of a pericope (on
Jesus' alleged Satanism) within a pericope (on familial
relationships), tied together by the fact that both Jesus'
friends and the scribes believed Jesus to be crazy (or
possessed). The point here is that to those who stand outside the
circle of faith -- even family members and the very religious --
who Jesus is and what he does remain a mystery.
Liturgical Color:
Green
Suggested Hymns:
Oh, For A Thousand Tongues To Sing
In Adam We Have All Been One
Praise The Savior, Now And Ever
O God, Our Help In Ages Past
On Our Way Rejoicing
My Heart Is Longing
Proper 5 ù Pentecost 3 ù OT 10
Lord, as we come before you today,
we have mixed feelings.
Some of us are absorbed in problems.
Others are worrying about their health.
Still others have hearts heavy with sadness ...
work is not going well,
relationships are slipping away,
the zest for living is at a low ebb.
So we come before you today seeking
strength,
peace,
renewal,
joy.
Grant us the wisdom to see that problems come and
go but that your love for us is steadfast.
Eternal.
Without your love we are empty.
Dissolve the anxieties which are blocking our
spiritual growth.
Give us the wisdom to make good decisions and
the courage to follow them through.
Amen.
