Methodist pastors change pulpits at the will of the bishop, so when the call came from my district superintendent that the bishop wanted to move me to the North Doncaster church, my staying at Thornberry was not an option. The new appointment would mean a larger parish and a salary increase, so it had to be considered a promotion. But after five years at Thornberry, I was attached to the people there and wasn't anxious to leave. Aside from a summer internship as a pastoral assistant while in college, Thornberry had been my first church appointment.
