LECTIONARY WORSHIP AIDS
Series III
* CALL TO WORSHIP
Look to our Creator who gives breath to all breathing creatures
and the Spirit to all praying beings.
* PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Unseen Parent, Departed Brother, Promised Counselor, we admit
that we have not always confessed that we have done what is
wrong. We do not always seek the truth to know and do what is
right. Though we should declare our faults and failings out of
sheer love and trust, we more often confess out of threat of
future judgment. Forgive indifference and noncommittal
discipleship with too much drift and very little direction. We
need the intensity and intentionality of your Son Jesus; through
the promised Spirit. Amen.
* DECLARATION OF GOD'S FORGIVENESS
Hear the Good News! Everyone who invokes Jesus Christ by name
shall be saved. Friends, believe the Good News. In Jesus
Christ, we are forgiven.
* EXHORTATION
Be open to God who will pour out the Spirit on all humanity, so
that our children will prophesy, the old will dream dreams and
the young see visions.
* PRAYER OF THE DAY
Spirit of truth, guide us into all truth, so that we may know
where wrong and right and judgment lie, and in knowing what is
coming, stand with you and not with the Prince of this world who
already stands condemned. Amen.
* PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING
Doer-of-great-things, glorified-Truth-Teller, truthful Advocate,
what great things you do and promise, and fulfill. We are
continually amazed at the speech you give the speechless, the
power you give to the powerless, the meaning you give to those
whose lives have seemed meaningless. We live in anticipation of
what your loving Spirit can still do as people are open to the
gifts your Spirit will give in and through the church of Jesus
Christ. We glorify you, Father, Son and mothering Spirit. Amen.
* PRAYER OF DEDICATION
You, too, are mind, and body and spirit, O God. We bring our
offerings to support the church's ministry of learning and doing
and praying to the glory of your name. Amen.
* PSALM 104: 24-34, 35b
O LORD, how manifold are your works!
In wisdom you have made them all;
the earth is full of your creatures.
Yonder is the sea, great and wide,
creeping things innumerable are there,
living things both small and great.
There go the ships,
and Leviathan that you formed to sport in it.
These all look to you to give them their food in due season;
when you give to them, they gather it up;
when you open your hand, they are filled with good things.
When you hide your face, they are dismayed;
when you take away their breath, they die and return to their
dust.
When you send forth your spirit, they are created;
and you renew the face of the ground.
May the glory of the LORD endure forever;
may the LORD rejoice in his works --
who looks on the earth and it trembles,
who touches the mountains and they smoke.
I will sing to the LORD as long as I live;
I will sing praise to my God while I have being.
May my meditation be pleasing to him,
for I rejoice in the LORD.
Bless the LORD, O my soul.
Praise the LORD!
