Call To Worship
Leader: Let us come before the Lord our God who has revealed himself in ages past.
People: We come, remembering that God has done awesome deeds that we did not expect.
Leader: As we enter into God's presence we are reminded that the Lord is our Father.
People: Yes, we are all God's people, and we come to prepare ourselves for the coming of God's Son, our brother, Jesus Christ. Amen.
Collect
Almighty and Everlasting God, we come before you on this first Sunday of Advent to prepare ourselves for the coming of the Christ Child. We know that it is not you who have hidden from us, but we who have failed to recognize your presence among us. As we welcome the Christ Child may we realize anew that you, O God, are indeed Immanuel -- God with us. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O Lord, do not be exceedingly angry, and do not remember our sins forever. We all fade like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away from your holy presence. Forgive us, we pray, and create in us clean hearts. In Jesus' name. Amen.
Hymns
"Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus"
"Emmanuel, Emmanuel"
First Sunday Of Advent
Second Lesson: 1 Corinthians 1:3-9

People: God is faithful; by him we are called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus. Amen.
Collect
Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, we give thanks to you for those who journey with us to the Bethlehem manger. Together we wait expectantly for the revelation of your love for all humankind through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O God, we profess to be followers of our Lord, Jesus Christ, but confess that we are not blameless in our efforts to bear witness to his love in our speech and in our actions. Forgive us, we pray, and strengthen the testimony of Christ among us. Amen.
Hymns
"People, Look East"
"I Want To Walk As A Child Of The Light"
First Sunday Of Advent
Gospel Lesson: Mark 13:24-37

Call To Worship
As we prepare to celebrate Christmas we must remember that Christ often comes into our lives when we least expect him. As we worship this morning let us keep alert lest we shut the door of our hearts to his coming.
Collect
Heavenly Father, as we make preparations to celebrate the coming of our Lord Jesus may we not be found sleeping when there comes a knock on the door of our hearts and Christ seeks to enter. Surrounded by the secularization of this holy season, keep us alert to the true meaning of Christmas. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Holy Child of Bethlehem, we humbly confess that as we prepare for your Advent our thoughts have been mainly on sending out holiday greetings and preparing our shopping lists. By the power of your Holy Spirit forgive our shortsightedness, and fix our attention on the earth-shaking and life-changing event we celebrate with your coming into the world. Amen.
Hymns
"Wake, Awake, For The Night Is Flying"
"O Come, O Come, Emmanuel"
