MARY: (ENTERS ALONG WITH JOSEPH) Did you have a good day, dear?
JOSEPH: Yes, Mary, I did. I'm tired.
MARY: Are the boys with you?
JOSEPH: Yes, they're washing for the evening meal.
MARY: Why don't you just relax until they all come in. You've been working too hard.
JOSEPH: We all worked hard. The boys are a big help.
MARY: I know Jesus is.
JOSEPH: He sure is. I don't know what I'd do without him.
MARY: He's growing up so fast. Someday he'll have his own family.
JOSEPH: I know. It's difficult to think of them leaving home.
MARY: I seems like such a short time ago that Jesus was born.
JOSEPH: Yes, it does. Remember when we took him to the Temple?
MARY: Of course I remember. That was a glorious day, when we presented him to the Lord God. Our firstborn.
JOSEPH: What was the old man's name? You know, the one who wanted to hold Jesus.
MARY: What was his name? I should remember. I know I didn't want anyone touching my baby, but you said it was all right.
JOSEPH: Simeon.
MARY: Simeon, that was it. He took Jesus in his arms and prayed a prayer.
JOSEPH: Yes. He prayed to God, saying that Jesus was the salvation prepared by God for His people.
MARY: And the salvation to the Gentiles.
JOSEPH: That's right -- a revealing light for the Gentiles.
MARY: Then there was that widow -- Anna.
JOSEPH: She lived in the Temple. She blessed him too.
MARY: And said that he'd be the redemption of Jerusalem.
JOSEPH: The thing about that day that has always troubled me was what Simeon said about the sword.
MARY: I've often wondered what it meant -- that a sword would pierce my soul.
JOSEPH: I know that thinking of Jesus leaving home would be enough to pierce my soul with a sword.
MARY: Mine too.
JOSEPH: Well, then, we must enjoy the time he is with us.
